As an English and Welsh surname

Bardsley classes it as a baptismal name, from a given name: ‘the son of Geri’.

An early record he cites: Richard Jery, Huntingdonshire, 1273 — Hundred Rolls.

His entry covers Geary, Gery, Garry and Gerry.
