In 1790, McCloud was counted together with McLeod: 132 families in all.
Each family is counted by its head. About 609 people lived in those households, 4.6 to a family on average. The census counted these spellings together: McLeod, McClaud, McCleod, McCload, McClode, McCloud, McLoad, McLoud, Macloud. The table lists white heads of families only, in the twelve states whose 1790 records survive; Virginia’s figures come from state lists of 1782–1785.
